Community Liver Alliance Receives $5,000 CVS Health Community Grant

Grant to Community Liver Alliance is Part of CVS Health’s Commitment to Increasing Access to Quality Health Care

Pittsburgh, PA   –May 26, 2015  The Community Liver Alliance announced today that it has received a $5,000 CVS Health Community Grant.

The Community Grants Program was created by CVS Health, as part of its commitment to building healthier communities. These grants support nonprofit organizations that are providing much-needed access to health care for at-risk and underserved populations. The support from CVS Health will help the Community Liver Alliance with its Kick Liver Disease Campaign.

The Kick Liver Disease Campaign works with Shaun Suisham, Place Kicker for the Pittsburgh Steelers Football Team, as the celebrity spokesperson for the Community Liver Alliance to promote liver health awareness and healthy life-style choices which include physical activity and good nutrition.

The Kick Liver Disease Campaign is a comprehensive media campaign to create awareness about Liver Wellness and Liver Disease prevention and to engage students and their families to participate in developing school-based Kick Liver Disease Campaigns.  Our goal is to increase understanding of the liver and its role in maintaining health for a long life and to make liver wellness part of everyone’s concern, whether or not they have liver disease.

“The CVS Health grant will enable the Community Liver Alliance to reach a greater number of youth and their families to provide education and support. We are grateful for our partnership with CVS Health and admire their commitment to social responsibility throughout the communities we both serve,” Said Suzanna Masartis, Executive Director of the Community Liver Alliance.

“As a pharmacy innovation company, we are committed to helping people on their path to better health. We are proud to support organizations that increase access to quality health care because we know their efforts are critical to delivering better community health,” said Eileen Howard Boone, Senior Vice President, Corporate Social Responsibility and Philanthropy, CVS Health. “We are pleased to support the work that the Community Liver Alliance does in the community and we look forward to working with them to fulfill their program’s mission.”

The Community Liver Alliance was selected to receive a grant through the CVS Health Community Grants 2015 application process. Grants were awarded to organizations, such as community health centers and mobile health clinics, which support CVS Health’s commitment to enhance the health and well-being for at-risk and underserved populations by offering quality health and rehabilitation services and health education. The goal of the CVS Health Community Grants Program is to provide relief for both adults and children who lack medical insurance and help ensure they receive the proper medical care they need.

The Community Liver Alliance is a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization formed to support patients/caregivers, health professionals and the community through programs developed to address various liver diseases and liver wellness information.  All funding will be kept local to support these initiatives and invest in the communities we serve.  Some key initiatives for the next two years will be to create a comprehensive advocacy program surrounding HCV prevention and awareness, promote liver health through community outreach and fund local research.

Community Liver Alliance’s strength lies within its ability to bring together key partners to meet the needs of those we will serve.  Leveraging partnerships and collaborations will create a culture of expertise in all aspects of liver-related issues including transplantation and research.  Being responsive to the local liver community will ensure our success.

The Community Liver Alliance is dedicated to meeting the needs of the local community through liver disease awareness, prevention, education advocacy and research.  For more information about the Community Liver Alliance check out our website at www.communityliveralliance.org or call us at 412-501-4CLA.
